2024 DEI Winter Summit
Over 150 equity-minded practitioners from across the university gathered in community both in-person and via Zoom to continue driving progress towards animating the University’s newly approved DEI strategic plan.
Both President Reed and Janice Parks, Vice President of Human Resources, offered remarks in support of the DEI strategic plan, the work of our office, and the power of you. They both acknowledged that striving towards equity is ongoing, and while we may make some mistakes along the way, we must remain committed to fostering a sense of belonging among all faculty, staff, and students.
Tara Jaye Frank, author of the 'The Waymakers,' left us all with the tools and confidence necessary to become a Waymaker at Loyola. As Tara stated during the fireside chat, “the coalition of the willing is the most important thing you can cultivate.” Her inspiring keynote and engaging fireside chat provided insight to how we can overcome barriers on our equity journeys to create positive change.

2023 DEI Winter Summit
Faculty and staff DEI Advocates gathered at the Office of Institutional DEI's Winter Summit event to continue a shared persistence towards our individual, unit, and institutional DEI goals aimed at increasing a sense of belonging for all Ramblers.
At our event, University President Dr. Mark C. Reed set the stage by sharing his commitment to centering values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in each corner of his leadership at Loyola. After all, as he shared, Cura Personalis is ingrained in Loyola’s DNA – our work is not separate from Loyola’s mission and vision. Guest speaker Xavier Ramey, CEO of Justice Informed, gave an unforgettable workshop empowering faculty and staff with the tools and the confidence required to continue propelling DEI work at Loyola. In the words of Xavier, "Don't get overwhelmed with this work. Get curious."
Through these efforts, the DEI Advocates' commitment, capacity, and confidence is even stronger than before towards creating real change on our campuses.
